One More Reason I Like My Job

Let's just say that I am definitely satisfied in my line of work since I have worked at my job for several years. I like all of my coworkers and get along well with my boss, which is something that is definitely hard to come by when you are searching for the ideal work environment. Just recently, my boss decided that it was a good idea to allow us all to be able to listen to our iPods as we work. It is kind of an experimental process see how our productivity improves or if it changes in a way, but for me, it makes my day that much more relaxing since I can just zone out and get my work done faster.

I always know that I have found an activity I love if time just flies by because there is nothing worse than counting the minutes on a clock and wishing for your day to end. Like I said, I already really enjoyed my job, but being able to put on one of my favorite playlists at work really makes time go by so much faster so that it is the end of the day before I know it. I work better being able to focus by myself, so being able to listen to my iPod at work is an ideal scenario for me, and I hope we get to keep doing it!

My iPhone is My Bartender

So one of the coolest things that I like about my iPhone is that I can always access any information, any time, any where. If you too are an iPhone user, then I am sure that you have experienced the same success with looking up, I don't know -- the name of Val Kilmer's character in Willow or what the capital of Maine is. (Answers: Madmartigan and Augusta) My latest iPhone feat has been to make creative cocktails that I have always wanted to learn how to make.

I started by looking up the ingredients for a Mojito, which was fairly simple. My only issue was making the simple syrup because I used so much sugar that it was likely to give anyone who drank my cocktail diabetes. After a few attempts, I had the recipe perfected, and my friends were more than happy to come over and enjoy my bartending skills. I was almost tempted to tell them I did it without the help of my iPhone, but I knew that there was no way that they would believe me. My iPhone is my mistress, after all. I think my next achievement will be another cocktail courtesy of my iPhone. Manhattans, anyone?

Angels & Demons

Have you all seen that movie yet? I missed seeing "Angels & Demons"opening weekend because I really didn't want to fight the crowds, but I finally saw it and was so happy I did. The only catch is that I saw "The Da Vinci Code" when it came out a few years ago, so I really don't even remember what that was about. I remember the main idea, but all of the plot lines are totally fuzzy to me. I guess the good news is that "Angels & Demons" is a prequel, so I don't technically need to remember the other storyline.

The point of the matter is that this movie was really well done, and I'm not going to give away any plot information, but the ending was way better than I expected! I mean, I thought that it had already ended well, but they did a pretty big plot twist at the end so that it was even more unexpected. Pretty much, you just need to go see it. I am currently working on downloading "The Da Vinci Code" so I can't watch it on my iPod and have it make even more sense to me. See, at least I saw the prequel, so now the original can build on that. Yay!

Music Helps Me Cook

I have always loved to cook and create amazing new recipes based on the ones that I already know. Of course, this was way before the day and age of iPod technology, so now I have my very own iPod touch, which has changed the quality of my cooking forever. Now when I'm in the kitchen, I can put on an upbeat playlist that energizes me and seems to get my creative juices flowing to create and concoct even better recipes for my dinner.

Right now I am focusing on different fusion dishes, like southern Asian styles incorporating barbecue tastes, as odd as that sounds! The truth of the matter is that when I can zone out and focus by listening to my iPod while I'm cooking, my dishes are so much better than they've ever been before. I know that my family is happy because they are really loving all of the new experiments I am creating that they get to taste test every night at dinner. I just have to keep an eye out that I don't make so much food that we all get too fat from trying it! Thank God I use my iPod for working out too because otherwise I would be in trouble...

Are You Too a Poker Fanatic?

I have to confess that I have been to Vegas numerous times, but I have only become a freak about poker lately. I was pretty intimidated to play at any of the poker tables in Vegas when I was there, but I have been playing with friends in their homes from time to time and have been doing amazing! That, of course, is the true irony in poker playing because there is absolutely no way that I would get pocket aces a few times within one game at a professional table.

Maybe our shuffling was sub par, but I felt truly awesome even though my pocket aces happened to lose both hands because I really had nothing else going on on the table. The whole point of the matter is that I have been using my iPhone during my breaks at work to play my new poker apps so I can become even better for my next trip to Vegas. This may be all pipe dreams, but I am hoping to improve my skills enough to actually hold my own in one of the casino tournaments. I'm thinking Mandalay Bay or the Bellagio because I have to dream big! Do you think I can do it??

iPods at War?

The latest iPod news is quite interesting because as it turns out, the US military is actually giving each of their soldiers an iPod touch. I personally think that it's a forward move that our government is supplying our soldiers with such a technologically sound device. I have known several people in my age group who gone off to Iraq, so it's pretty comforting to know that they have the best help available to adapt to combat. But what exactly are they using the iPod touch for? One of the main reasons that they are given this device is because it can help them with routes and maps during combat, it also is a great tool to help with the language and cultural barrier. This is something that can help coordinate an entire military troop in a quick amount of time!

So not only does your iPod touch offer cool apps, but you can be happy to know that is also being used in pretty important situations in protecting our country. I'm sure that the soldiers are pleased to have a great gadget to listen to all of their music on, and even more so, something to help them adapt to their dangerous environment. Apple must feel proud!

Rev Up Your Workout

I have to confess that I have been seriously struggling with finding the best workout motivation, and then I finally got the bright idea to beef up my playlists on my iPod. This actually did wonders for me because it made my time on the treadmill feel like it was flying by. I had to really work on deciding the right mix of music because you definitely want something that can pump you up and have a good beat. So far, my top two favorites are the Beastie Boys and Rihanna for having the best variety of music to keep me moving.

I know that they are on two ends of the music spectrum, but I have to say that I have an eclectic taste in all musical genres. I guess that is the benefit that you can draw from the technology of the great iPod in accessing a huge range of tunes for all of your needs. This has really helped me to get my butt in gear, literally, and mix it up in the gym with weights, running, and bicycling. I am so fit now that I feel like Liquid Metal Man. This is something I recommend to all wannabe fitness pros!

Have You Heard of the Baby Shaker App?

I know that if you are an iPhone or iPod touch user, then you definitely are a fan of the variety of applications that are at your fingertips. Addicting. One that actually made the news lately is pretty shocking because Apple pulled it almost right away. It was called the Baby Shaker application (don't quote me exactly), and actually had a baby that was crying nonstop so that you had to shake your iPhone to shut it up. This may seem pretty amusing, but when you put two and two together, it is pretty horrifying because of all the issues with Shaken Baby Syndrome.

There were two schools of thought going in to the argument over this app. One of which was a group of horrified mothers saying that you should never, never, never shake a baby, and the other were people who were loving this app and saying it was just a game and not a big deal. Regardless, this app did not last too long because of all of the controversy surrounding it because of the reality of damage to babies. So where do you stand? Is shaking a virtual baby no biggie, or something you should never, never, never do?

iTunes Can Thank American Idol

I have to admit that I have definitely become a sad, sad American Idol fan. I never thought that I would see the day, but it is the highlight of my week to see those talented kids attempt to do their best and then get criticized for it every Tuesday and Wednesday night. Sometimes it is like watching a train wreck, and sometimes I feel super jealous. And then there is the intrigue of always seeing how Adam will do his hair! The funny thing that I have noticed lately is how often they manage to plug iTunes by mentioning that you can download any American Idol song easily from iTunes. This must be really good for Apple because you know that there are millions of teens and tweens watching who are just eating this up. I even loved the staged plug for iTunes and iPhones from Matt G. this season who claim to be "just listening to his own song on he downloaded to his iPhone". Clever. As if that wasn't enough to look forward to the snarky criticisms from Simon, I can now download any of these delightful songs from iTunes?? Say it ain't so! But the sad part is that I probably will...

What Would You Do For a Box of Rocks?

Okay, so the most interesting iPod story that I've heard lately is one that is almost unbelievable. Apparently, a few years ago, there was a 14-year-old girl in -- ahem- Texas, whose parents bought her a brand-new iPod from Target for a gift. She, of course, was very happy to open it up, and when she did so, she found... a box full of rocks! Possibly a practical joke, but no one could really understand how they got in there and why there was no iPod to be found. I can't think of anything more depressing than getting extremely excited for an awesome birthday present and then opening it to find... rocks. That is the kind of thing that they warn you about when you're a little kid so you don't misbehave and get coal in your stocking. But the story gets better! The family, of course, angrily took the iPod back to Target, and they were forced to actually exchange and purchase a new one before they could open another box. So, they went through the entire exchange process and then purchased another iPod and open it in the store to find another... box of rocks! The girl ended up exchanging the second box of rocks for store credit and kissing her iPod dream goodbye. Boo.
